Welcome to Our Education Enrollment

Oregon’s Health Care Interpreter Program includes two levels of credentialing (qualification and certification). Linguistic Roots Connection provides the 60 hour requirement to become Qualified.  A qualified health care interpreter must meet all the requirements listed below and provide the supporting documentation.

• Must be at least 18 years of age. 
• Include a copy of a valid driver’s license, passport or other valid government-issued identification.
• Education: Must have high school diploma (or GED equivalent) or higher.
• Must not be in the Medicaid Exclusion Database: http://exclusions.oig.hhs.gov/. 
• Must have at least 60 hours of formal health care interpreter training. -certificate will be provided upon completion of 64 hours training with Linguistic Roots Connection.
• Include proof of successful completion of 60 hours of training from an OHA-approved HCI training program. -certificate will be provided upon completion of 64 hours training with Linguistic Roots Connection.
• Must have language proficiency in English and the target language (see Language proficiency requirements for HCI qualification for detailed information page2-3). 
• Proof of meeting the minimum required language proficiency from an approved testing center or demonstration of having met equivalent language proficiency requirements (see Language proficiency requirements for HCI qualification for detailed information page2-3).

Once you have met all requirements and your application with OHA is approved your license is valid for four years 

To renew your qualifications with the Oregon health Authority you must meet all the following requirements. You: 

• Are at least 18 years of age
• Are not on the Medicaid exclusion list 
• Are a currently a qualified medical interpreter (see 950-050-0120 for expiration guidelines)
• Have completed 24-hours of continuing education (must be through an OHA- recognized CEU program or equivalent; submit this form with the certificates of completion). You must also submit these when you seek renewal of HCI qualification or certification: 

• A clear copy of your current driver license, government-issued ID, or passport 
• Copies of your continuing education certificates. Continuing education must take place during the 4-year credential period. 
• OHA will notify you via email about the status of your application after confirming you meet all requirements.
• OHA will update your information on the HCI registry when the application process is complete, and a renewal letter is issued via email.
